About Geshe Michael Roach
Geshe Michael Roach (Venerable Lobsang Chunzin) is a fully ordained monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He was the first American to earn the title of geshe (akin to a doctorate in theology) from Sera Mey Monastic College, re-established in South India, after more than two decades of study there and with his principal teacher Khen Rinpoche in Howell, New Jersey.
Born in Los Angeles in 1952 and raised in Phoenix, he was awarded the Presidential Scholars medallion at the White House and graduated with honors from Princeton University. He is a scholar of Sanskrit, Tibetan and Russian and has translated an extensive array of Buddhist Scripture. His published books include How Yoga Works,The Garden, The Eastern Path to Heaven, The Tibetan Book of Yoga,Karmic Management, and The Diamond Cutter: The Buddha on Managing Your Business and Your Life. The latter two books draw upon his many years of corporate life in a Manhattan diamond business where he rose to the position of vice-president.
Geshe Michael has founded many other organizations such as the Asian Classic Input Project, the Diamond Cutter Institute, Diamond Mountain Retreat Center, the Yoga Studies Institute, and Star in the East.
Geshe Michael is a highly popular teacher and author worldwide, teaching to a range of audiences. In 2010 he moved back to the Phoenix area, where he plans to teach and lead retreats, continue translating texts from Tibetan and Sanskrit, and meet the needs of his many students.
